War Story:
The official USMC history in a chapter titled Fall and Winter Operations states that the SLF with HMM-162 on the USS Princeton provided humanitarian support in I Corps following two back-to-back storms. This helicopter was lost as sea in an operational accident while participating in these operations. Two crewmen, CPL Slack and LCPL Nipper died in the crash.
LCPL Ron Penninger states this event occured in the water off Qui Nhon.
