Accident Summary:

The crew hear a loud noise followed by an engine failure over mountain terrain. They autorotated to a slope covered with small trees and brush.


War Story:
The pilot I talked to at the scene said they had been hit and lost power. They were transporting some grunts when it happened and one of them said they had been shot down also. Rick ran into the main rotor and it took off the top of his head. Maybe that's why it's listed as accidental. From: Keith Bodine, kbodine@swbell.net December 2001.
