Accident Summary:

While climbing to 180 feet, a grinding noise was heard and the RPM started to bleed off. The engine quit and the transmission light came on. While making an autorotation into jungle growth, the left skid struck a log and the aircraft rolled on its right side. The rotor blades of the rescue aircraft (OH-23G 63-12784) struck SGT MAJ Stirnkorb as he stood on the skid of the downed aircraft. Suspect transmission and/or engine failure on this aircraft and engine failure on the rescue aircraft.
