War Story:
According to Chris Sharkey, pilot of HMM-163 UH-34 Incident Date 680425. He confirmed, from his logbook, his BuNo as 147150. Said he had picked up passenger 1/Lt Warren Michael at Quang Tri. The crash was at night at the loading docks of the USN Support Activity (YD 33-69) at the mouth of the Cua Viet River approx 15 miles N of Quang Tri. Helicopter collided with a piece of ground equipment at night (unlighted for security reasons) - ground equipment type unknown but thought to be forklift or ground crane. Door Gunner Cpl Ed Root and passenger 1Lt Warren Michael were KIA. Other crew members escaped crash with injuries. http://www.popasmoke.com/kia/incidents.php?incident_id=155&conflict_id=24
