War Story:
Sources indicate to the VHPA that this was the A/7/17 Cav OH-6A in which SP4 Noe Tameyoza was killed by enemy machinegun fire during an armed reconnaissance near the Oasis. The unit history relates that while enroute to an AO west of the Oasis, the Scouts spotted approximately eight men traveling along a trail. As the helicopters passed, the men took cover. After determining that there were no friendlies in the area, the Scouts and Guns engaged. During one exchange, the Observer was hit by enemy fire and died. An airstrike was called in and an infantry unit swept the area finding eight dead NVA and capturing an AK-50, 25 packs plus other ammunition and equipment.
