War Story:
On 09/05/69 A UH-1H piloted by our CO Maj Moody was hovering by a tall tree that had a VC flag on top.

As the crewchief was about to reach for it a booby trap exploded killing the crew chief ( SP5 Charles Romero).

The aircraft tail rotor was knocked out, tail boom was peppered t/r driveshaft broken. Moody did a hovering autorotation from about 60-80 feet. I believe that the aircraft tail number was 68-15325 but not positive.

It was the CO's aircraft. I was 8 days from deros when she was brought in and I believe that aircraft was almost repaired when I left. She got new boom and tail rotor gearbox, tail rotor drive shafts, and I'm not sure if we had to replace the engine.
