War Story:
In March, John Lockhart was killed onboard 712. He was shot in the back as related by some Joker crewmen OR as I remember the Doctor telling me, thru the side and out just below the armpit. 712 was flown back to Dong Ha but it was grounded (one Hyd system was shot up). I don't believe we got it back flyable until after LS 719 was over. I am 99% sure that is the "C" model I staying behind with at Dong Ha while the 48th moved down to Da Nang Main was 712. Parts finally arrived at Quang Tri and I flew it down to Da Nang with 3 maintenance EM who stayed behind with me at Dong Ha.

From: Mike Sathre

Dan Fain (Door gunner with the 48th during Lam Son 719) was on the aircraft when John Lockhart was killed. Fred Few was pilo. Dan said that when Lockhart was hit, he went over to him to provide assistance and when he rolled him over on the deck a bullet round the size of a .30 caliber fell from behind the chicken plate. He also said that the aircraft took multiple hits and had a lot of battle damage during the incident, but that no one else was injured.
