Description: The A Company, 1st Aviation Battalion unit history states that aviators from the 52d Airlift Platoon, the 117th and the 119th Avn companies arrived at Ban Me Thuot for a personnel exchange with Company A to stagger dates of rotation. Of the Officers and Warrant Officers arriving in the original unit, only 14 remained with the company after the exchange. The exchange was made on a man for man basis with the various units of the 52d Aviation Battalion. Enlisted personnel of all A grades were also exchanged. As a result of the DEROS exchange, an intense training program was established in an effort to qualify the new aviators in the UH-1D. Platoon and company training in formation flying, eagle flights and company sized airmobile assaults were greatly emphasized. The history lists the 14 pilots that remained in the unit.
