Description: The A Company, 1st Aviation Battalion unit history states they were preparing for movement to Saigon to work with the 145th Avn Bn. The operation involved lifting elements of the 173d Airborne Brigade and the Royal Australian Regiment into an area 5Km north of Ben Cat. Six air mobile companies plus USAF elements were involved in the operation. The operation consisted of making five lifts from Bien Hoa to an LZ north of Ben Cat. This area was known as War Zone D and had long been a sanctuary for thie VC.
