unit history information
for C/2/20 ARA
battle of Ia Drang Valley

For date 651118

C/2/20 ARA was a US Army unit
Primary service involved, US Army
Pleiku Province, II Corps, South Vietnam
Location, Pleiku
Description: The battalion history states that the fight around Pleiku had shifted west toward the Ia Drang River valley and the Cambodian border as the NVA attempted to escape. In the eight days from 11 to 18 Nov the enemy lost 1180 confirmed killed and an additional 1370 estimated. Because of the dense jungles with heavy overgrowth and the many night missions, it was virtually impossible to estimate how many of those enemy losses were inflicted by Battery C but the portion was surely substantial. MAJ Barthelmew, the Battery C CO, was awarded the DFC for his own and the battery's performance.
