Description: The heaviest action during operation MALLARD occurred early this morning when a four-man team from Co G, 9th Marines surprised about 40 VC "deployed in a skirmish line with four 60mm mortars". The Marines fired on the VC at close range and the startled VC force became disorganized, dropped their packs and dispersed. A sweap of the site netted four dead VC, the four 60mm mortars, 80 mortar rounds, plus 15 packs.
