South Vietnam
Description: During the night of 18-19 March, the 1st VC Regiment overran a Regional Force (RF) Company outpost near An Hoa on Route 529 in northern Quang Ngai Province. During the morning of the 19th, 10 UH-34s from HMM-261 tried to insert a 120 ARVN force to retake the outpost. Heavy machine gun fire hit eight of the 10 helicopters and only three were able to land their troops. After several air strikes, HMM-261 was able to extract these troops shortly before 1630.
