operation report information
for MAG-16

For date 660710

MAG-16 was a US Marine Corps unit
Primary service involved, US Marine Corps
Operation MACON
South Vietnam
Description: Phase III of operation MACON began on the 10th and the operation was "terminated" early on the 14th because none of the units made contact with the VC. However, at 0800 a recon patrol spo0tted 300-400 VC and killed at least 30 with artillery and air strike. III MAF ordered MACON to continue and it did with about one Marine battalion until 27 October. MAG-16 helicopters provided support of these Marine units during the operation. Even after MACON ended, nothing much changed. The Marines continued to maintain a battalion in the An Hoa area and the VC continued to have about two battalions northwest over the Thu Bon River in what the Marines called "Arizona Territory (or indian country).
