Description: Acting on 2d ARVN Div intelligence that the 2d NVA Division (AKA 620th NVA) with all three regiments, the 3d NVA, the 21st NVA, and the 1st VC had entered the strategic Que Son Valley that straddled the Quang Tin and Quang Nam provinces, III MAF planned and executed operation KANSAS which involved inserting a series of 13-man reconnaissance teams to observe and bring fire on the enemy. Though the operation officially ended on the 22d, Marine artillery and recon teams remained in and around the valley for six more day. These actions resulted in 85 enemy dead versus nine Marine KIA and 14 WIA.
