Operation CHINOOK
Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam
Description: Operation CHINOOK started on the 23rd as a result of a Marine battalion that began working the Phong Dien area along Route 1 from Hue to Quang Tri. In the early morning hours of Dec 22 and 23, the 802d VC Battalion attacked the Marine positions. As a result, two addition Marine battalions are inserted and the 4th Marines took control of the operation.
