Description: The 14th CAB ORL states that at 0055H a mortar attack was initiated against the Duc Pho airfield complex. In a five minute span, seven rounds landed in the 174th Aviation Company area. One round hit a troop tent killing two and wounding 36 personnel. Three UH-1D's and one UH-1C, located in "U" shaped revetments, were damaged. Approximately 35 personnel from the 409th Maintenance Detachment were wounded. Emergency requisitions for personnel were submitted to the 17th Avn Group and higher commands. Temporary replacements were selected from other maintenance units within the battalion, the 335th direct support Transportation Company, and placed on TDY with the 174th Aviation Company until replacements arrived. The fast reaction time in placing appropriate personnel on TDY with the 174th Aviation Company enabled routine support to continue without any difficulty.
