Description: The following is an edited version from the "1967 Action Summarized" column that appeared in the 20 Jan 1968 issue. The 4th Inf Div, working in the central highlands, reported killing more than 3,600 enemy soldiers during the calendar year of 1967. Participating in three division-size operations and two smaller ones, division soldiers engaged NVA regulars almost exclusively throughout the year. Starting with Operation Sam Houston on January 1 the year closed on the heels of the battle of Dak To during Operation MacArthur. In the year's period, 3,622 communist soldiers were killed and 1,155 weapons were captured. Over 71 tons of rice, more than 2,000 pounds of corn and 447 pounds of salt were taken from hidden enemy supply caches. Other division operations during the year were Francis Marion and two smaller operations called Greeley and Hancock I.
