Description: The Marines sent a battalion to Khe Sanh on 13 Dec and on 2 Jan six men in marine uniforms were spotted outside the western perimeter of the base. When they failed to respond to a challenge from a security guard, five were gunned down and later identified as high-ranking NVA officers. This was the first hard evidence that the NVA had serious plans for the Khe Sanh area.
