Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 13 Jan 1968 issue. Heavy fighting erupted in Binh Dinh Province when air elements of the division were called in to reinforce an ARVN force in contact with an estimated enemy company near An Khe. Forty eight enemy were killed in the battle. Gunships and scout ships of the 1/9th Air Cav were joined in the battle by aerial rocket artillery helicopters from the 2/20th ARA. After three hours of fighting lift ships and Chinooks airlifted two cav companies into the area. The Popular Forces soldiers suffered light casualties and there were no U.S. losses.
