Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 13 Jan 1968 issue.
Three companies of the 3/503rd Inf were air-assaulted into an area after intelligence suspected an enemy force of unknown size was operating near Tuy Hoa in Phu Yen Province. Enemy ground fire was directed at the lift choppers as they brought the paratroopers into the LZ. One helicopter was destroyed after being hit. Contact continued throughout the day until the enemy broke after dark. Enemy casualties stand at 31 killed. There were 12 paratroopers killed and 31 wounded.
