Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 27 Jan 1968 issue. In continuous, scattered actions units killed over 600 enemy. Much of the action centered in the Que Son valley where Operation Wheeler/Wallowa units continued to engage forces of the 2nd NVA Division. The 196th LIB continued its sixth day of continuous action and recorded 147 enemy kills 22 miles west of Tam Ky. Elements of the 3d Bde, 1st Air Cav maintained pressure on the enemy, chasing an NVA force that struck at two brigade LZs. Members of the 3d Bde, 4th Inf encountered scattered resistance south of Chu Lai, killing 34. A company of the 11th LIB operating northwest of Duc Pho, was led by a Hoi Chanh to a hut containing enough rice to feed a 125-man VC Company for four days. Three enemy were killed during an hour of hit and run fighting.
