Description: The first phase of MACARTHUR ran from 12 Oct 1967 to 29 Jan 1968 and was called the PRE-TET period. MACARTHUR was the continuing 4th Inf Div border guard operations in the western II Corps. Excluding the Battle of Dak To and all its related events, the PRE-TET period was relatively calm. The 4th Inf Div reported US losses at 84 KIA and 320 WIA with 2 LOHs, 3 UH-1Hs, 1 SNOOPY destroyed; enemy losses at 426 NVA KIA, 68 VMC KIA, 32 NVA CIA, 21 VMC CIA, 1 Returnee and 189 detainees.
