Location, southeast of Kontum
A/7/17 CAV losses were 1 KIA
Description: A/7/17 Cav reported returning to the area where their Blues and D Troop had spent the night. While covering for this force, their Scouts received heavy AW fire. One aircraft was forced down, crashing, burning, and killing one crew member, SP5 Joseph McCloyn, and wounding two others. The ground force swept to the downed aircraft. B Troop's Blues were inserted to reinforce the other 7/17th Cav forces. Enroute to the downed LOH, the ground force received heavy fire. Returning the fire, A Troop killed 4 NVA and destroyed one machine gun. Contact was soon broken and all elements were lifted out. The Honor Roll section states that SP5 McCloyn was flying as a door gunner in an OH-6A. While covering A Troop's Blues which were in contact with an unknown size enemy unit, his aircraft received heavy AW fire forcing it down at ZA191759. On impact the aircraft caught fire killing SP5 McCloyn.
