Description: The II Field Force Vietnam quarterly ORLL reported that the 1/18th Inf, 2d Bde, 1st Inf Div conducted reconnaissance in force operations in the vicinity of Di An. At 0945H, approximately six kms NW of the city, D/1/18th Inf received small arms, automatic weapons, M-79 and RPG fire. The company returned the fire with organic weapons, airstrikes, artillery and light fire teams. Companies A and B/1/18th and Troops A and B/1/4th Cav plus A/7/1st Air Cav reinforced the contact which continued until 2150H and resulted in 257 enemy killed and five captured. Seven US were killed and 27 wounded.
