For date 680525

4 INF DIV was a US Army unit
Primary service involved, US Army
Kontum Province, II Corps, South Vietnam
Location, Dak To
Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 25 May 1968 issue. Two companies of NVA soldiers attacked a 4th Inf Div FSB north of Dak To early one morning but were driven back by the Ivymen's 3/8th Inf. The enemy suffered 47 killed in the four-hour battle. The enemy opened the attack with rockets and small arms and automatic weapons fire, then threw a human wave assault at the U.S. positions. The NVA soldiers occupied two U.S. bunkers, but the Ivymen countered with artillery and machinegun fire to defeat the attack. In other action men from the 4th Div killed 23 enemy soldiers.
