Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 8 June 1968 issue. Paratroopers of the 101st Abn Div and 3rd Bde, 82nd Abn Div killed 37 enemy recently in scattered contacts throughout the Operation Nevada Eagle area. That day's kills raised the enemy bodycount for the five day operation to more than 250. The 2/501st Abn killed 11 enemy while conducting reconnaissance-in-force operations eight miles NW of Hue. The action began when the troopers came under enemy mortar fire as they approached the junction of the Song Bo and Song Ho rivers. They returned the fire and prepared to assault the enemy firing positions. As the enemy started to withdraw, they were taken under fire by a light fire team from the 101st Avn Bn. Six more enemy soldiers were killed. The 2/505th Abn engaged an estimated reinforced NVA squad near FSB Veghel. The paratroopers assaulted the dug-in enemy and killed six. Four miles west of that area elements of the of 1/327th Abn found artillery pieces and ammunition. Other Screaming Eagle units killed 14 enemy in numerous scattered contacts throughout the Nevada Eagle AO.
