Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 27 July 1968 issue. The 1st Avn Bde killed 199 enemy while flying support and recon mission for infantry units. Gunship crews of the 235th AWC 307th CAB conducted reconnaissance operations west of Ca Mau. The Cobra gunners reported killing 18 VC during the mission. In addition, they sank 21 sampans, damaged 17; destroyed 13 structures and damaged five. The crews also reported two secondary explosions from destroyed sampans and two from destroyed structures. Helicopter gunship crews of the 121st AHC, 13th CAB supported elements of the 9th ARVN Div in a reconnaissance mission five miles northwest of Can Tho. The infantrymen encountered heavy enemy resistance. The gunships reported killing seven of the enemy.
