Description: The following is an edited version of an article titled "Choppers Shoot 17 VC" dated 17 Aug 1968. Hunter-killer teams of C/3/17th Air Cav combined with tactical airstrikes to kill 17 VC in a day of action near Trang Bang. Gunships also destroyed enemy bunkers and rocket launchers. One team composed of a LOH and an AH1-G Cobra gunship spotted on VC running across an open space. The man was killed by the LOH. As the pilot pulled up he started receiving automatic weapons fire. The gunship was called in on the position and five bunkers were destroyed and another VC killed by rocket fire. A third VC was spotted hiding in some water and killed by the gunship. Receiving word that a Vietnamese FAC had spotted 25 NVA soldiers in the area the team made a quick search. Four of eight camouflaged VC were killed in one pass. Making a second pass almost 200 bunkers were spotted. Three other VC were killed and 65 bunkers destroyed by tactical airstrikes and the gunship.
