Description: The following is an edited version from the Americal Daily News Sheets Vol. 2. No. 135 September 1 CHU LAI (AMERICAL IO) - Action in the Americal Division's southern I Corps Tactical Zone remained light yesterday as Division forces accounted for 13 VC and one NVA killed, and one individual weapon captured. In scattered action yesterday 196th Inf. Bde. soldiers killed six VC and one NVA in Operation Wheeler/Wallowa area. Companies of the 3d Bn., 21st Inf. in two separate incidents killed one VC and one NVA with small arms fire in an area centered 15 miles west of Tam Ky A company of the 4th Bn., 21st Inf. killed three evading VC eight miles southwest of Hoi An. Reconnaissance elements of the 4th Bn., 21st Inf. killed two VC in two separate incidents seven miles south of Hoi An. In light action around Duc Pho area 11th Inf. Bde. soldiers killed two VC and detained five suspects for questioning. An ambush patrol from the 1st Bn., 20th Inf. led by Cpt Robert S. Hauck (El Dorado, KS) engaged a group of evading VC yesterday evening three miles east of Duc Pho, killing two VC Later the patrol detained one suspect in the same area. Another patrol of the battalion led by Sgt. David L. Strohmaier (Yates City, IL) apprehended four suspects in the same area. In the 198th Inf. Bde's area of operations yesterday a company of the 1st Bn., 52nd Inf. killed two VC and one weapon was captured. Action increased slightly in the 1st Cav's area of operations as "A" Troop killed three VC and detained seven VC suspects in the Operation Burlington Trail area. Division forces suffered no casualties.
