Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 14 Sep 1968 issue. The troopers of the 101st Abn Div killed 106 with action termed as moderate contact with the enemy. Paratroopers of the 3d Bde, 82nd Abn continued reconnaissance-in-force operations in a suspected NVA regimental base area, 17 miles SE of Hue. Units from the 1/508th Abn and the 2/505th Abn found graves containing 23 NVA bodies. The troopers also uncovered several caches containing 25 weapons, assorted ammunition and 300 gas masks. While operating NW of Hue, troopers from the 1/501st Inf killed four enemy, detained one suspect and captured large quantities of supplies. Operating in conjunction with them, units of the 1/502nd Inf killed two enemy and detained two suspects. Other elements of the 1st Brigade killed four NVA soldiers nearby.
