Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 5 Oct 1968 issue. Elements of the 1st Inf Div reported light contact in their area of operations during the week. An ambush patrol from the Big Red One's 1/2nd Inf received small arms fire from several enemy in a bunker while moving to their ambush position. In the ensuing firefight, two enemy were killed. Elements of the 1/26th Inf, conducting a reconnaissance-in-force four miles SE of Lai Khe, made contact with four VC. The infantry were moving across a rice paddy when they sighted the enemy behind a paddy dike and killed one of the VC.
