Operation MEADE RIVER
Quang Nam Province, I Corps, South Vietnam
Location, Dodge City area
Description: The 3/36th NVA Regiment left during the previous evening and BLT 2/7 overran the entire "Horseshoe" area on their sixth day of this battle. Their search revealed bunkers constructed of reinforced concrete, railroad ties, and rails, covered with six feet of earth. Many tons of explosives were used to destroy the railroad berm but that was called off before it was completed. Since the beginning of the operation, ARVN troops and police had worked to evacuate 2,600 civilians from Dodge City to interrogation centers. With these civilans out and the Horseshoe finally cleared, BLT 2/26 and the 2/5th Marines began the next phase of the operation by attaching from the eastern edge of the cordon toward the Suoi Co Ca where the 51st ARVN had earlier established blocking positions.
