Description: The 361st AWC reported while supporting MACV SOG CCC missions from the FOB II base that CPT Small, team lead, and CPT Huff, wing ship, provided close support to a RT in heavy contract. Ground fire was intense and many hits were taken by both ships while making close-in attacks to drive the enemy fack. While the enemy was in a state of confusion, the fire team returned to base for damage assessment. Flying replacement aircraft, they returned to complete the extraction of the surrounded team. Only after repeated close-in attacks, flying through a hail of enemy fire, expending rockets, mini-gun and 40mm was the pickup successful, but not without both ships taking several more hits.
