Description: The following is an edited version of an article titled 'Soars With Slick Job - Chief Extracts Thankful Smiles' Ban Me Thout - "I like to fly," says SP4 David A Palmatier of Hyattsville, MD, crew chief of a Huey slick with Company A, 4th Aviation Battalion, commanded by MAJ Charles L. Woodhurst of Anderson, SC. Palmatier decided that one way he could see the world from the air was as a helicopter crew chief and that is what he enlisted for. After his 12-week advanced training, he arrived in Vietnam and said "I was really lucky, most chapper repairmen have to spend three months on the ground, but I was assigned a ship and began crewing right away. The hairiest missions are the LRP extractions." This ship must have been the preferred C&C ship for the 2nd Brigade CO, COL Herbert J. McChrystal who was mentioned in the article which goes on to say that Palmatier always commands the left door and mans its machinegun.
