Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 13 Jan 1969 issue.
On Dec 26, an ambush patrol from the 1/61st Inf ambushed a VC force eight miles east of Dong Ha. During a brief exchange of fire, the U.S. riflemen killed two enemy and captured one individual weapon and some field gear. The 1st Bde, 5th Inf Div reported light action on Dec 28. Elements of the 1/61st Inf encountered and engaged a small VC force about 11 a.m. yesterday. The infantrymen killed one VC and captured three individual weapons. Other battalion soldiers found 1,000 pounds of rice in the same area, nine miles northeast of Quang Tri.
