Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 27 Jan 1969 issue. Soldiers from the 1st Cav Div experienced heavy but scattered contact during the week, as they reported killing 204 enemy. In the week's largest contact, soldiers of the 1st Cav and supporting elements killed 52 enemy on Jan 11. An element of the 1/11th ACR under the operational control of the division, began receiving enemy fire before noon, four miles south of An Loc. The conflict which lasted over four and one half hours, was supported by gunship crews of the 1/9th Air Cav and 2nd Bde scouts. During this part of the contact, 31 enemy were killed. An estimated force of 10 enemy soldiers in bunkers were engaged by soldiers of the 5/7th Cav near the scene of the first encounter. Contact lasted fifteen minutes, and five enemy soldiers were killed. Other gunship crews from the 1/9th Air Cav engaged and killed one enemy soldier observed running to a hut 14 miles north of Quang Loi.
