Location, Tam Ky
Description: As part of FREDERICK HILL, the 1st Sqdn, 1st Cav, which was attached to the Americal Div, was ordered to clear the VC from Tam Ky in the wake of the Post-Tet Offensive. They moved against a hilltop where the 1st VC Regt had overrun a critical military outpost. When the initial attack to retake the hilltop did not suceed, the 3/21st Inf air assault in to reinforce. Even after air strikes and arty literally blew the top off the hill, this mixed armored-infantry force made several assaults up the slopes before finally recapturing it.
