Primary service involved, US Army
Binh Long Province, III Corps, South Vietnam

Description: The following is an edited version of an article titled "Downed 3 Times In 2 Days." Quan Loi (Special) - 1st Cav. Helicopter pilot WO Dana Keeney has been having more than his share of ups and downs recently. In less than 48 hours he was shot down three times. Each time he was rescued unhurt. As a scout pilot with the 1st Sq., 9th Cav., hovering at treetop level about 10 miles north of Bu Doc, Keeney was hit by AK47 fire and went down. He was immediately rescued and went out again on another mission. Covering a buddy who'd been shot down over Keeney's earlier downed bird, Keeney was shot down again. The next day he went out again, and sure enough, down he went. With three birds shot our from under him in two days and no injuries, Keeney considered himself more than a little lucky. "I've been shout at too many times to count, but when you do get hit, man, it really shakes you up. Of course, flying at treetop level is not like being way up there and getting hit, but it is an experience. When I was hit the first time I was scared more than I had ever been before. I thought I'd really had it, then. I could see the men firing at us, and while nobody was hit, one of the rounds hit six inches from the gunner. I was shot down once before and I've been flying the LOHs for about six months, so it wasn't the first time; but what a second, third and fourth times."
