Description: 15Mar71- Vietnam communiqué Feb. 22-27 Page 2 5th Inf Div In Military Region 1, an element of the 1st Bde., 5th Infantry Division (Mechanized), engaged an unknown-size enemy force nine miles west-southwest of Cam Lo during the morning of Feb. 23. The action resulted in four enemy killed and two individual weapons, two crew-served weapons, 10 hand grenades and four rocket-propelled grenades captured. U.S. casualties were two wounded. At noon on Feb. 25, an artillery element of the 1st Bde. in a defense position 10 miles southwest of Khe Sanh in Quang Tri Province of Military Region 1 received an unknown number of an undetermined-type artillery fire resulting in light casualties and no materiel damage. At approximately noon the next day in the same province, an element of the 1st Bde. engaged four enemy eight miles west-northwest of Khe Sanh. Two of the enemy were killed. U.S. casualties were five wounded. Still in the same province, on Feb. 27, an element of the 1st Bde. Found a cache nine miles north-northeast of Khe Sanh. The 2.25-ton cache contained five cases of 7.62mm ammunition, four cases of TNT, 10 claymore mines, three boxes of blasting caps and 3,400 pounds of rice.
