On the afternoon of March 1 in Kien Hoa Province, U.S. helicopter gunships on a visual reconnaissance mission 10 miles southwest of Ben Tre, received fire from an unknown-size enemy force. The gunships engaged the enemy with onboard ordnance killing 12 and destroying two sampans. There were no friendly casualties.
