Description: 29Mar71- Vietnam communiqué Mar. 7-13 Massive support for Lam San 719 U.S. Army helicopters flew more than 5,400 sorties during the seven-day period March 7 to 13 in support of Republic of Vietnam forces operating in the lower panhandle of Laos in Operation Lam Son 719. On March 7, a U.S. Army OH58 helicopter was hit by enemy ground fire, crashed and was destroyed in the lower panhandle of Laos while supporting the RVNAF in Lam Son 719. Two U.S. crewmen are missing in the action. On March 8, it was announced that a U.S. Army AH1 helicopter was hit by enemy ground fire, crashed and was destroyed in the lower panhandle on March 6. One U.S. crewman was wounded in the crash. Also on March 8, a U.S. Army UH1 helicopter was hit by enemy ground fire, crashed and was destroyed in the lower panhandle. Three U.S. personnel were wounded. On the evening of March 10, a U.S. Army UH1 helicopter was hit by enemy ground fire, crashed and was destroyed in the lower panhandle while supporting Lam Son 719. Three U.S. personnel were wounded. Three U.S. Army UH1 helicopters were hit by enemy ground fire, crashed and were destroyed while supporting RVNAF forces participating in Lam Son 719 on March 11. Four U.S. personnel were wounded. A U.S. Army AH1 helicopter missing in flight since March 6 over the lower panhandle was reported as a combat loss March 11. Two U.S. crew members are missing. Search efforts were continued.
