On March 7, a U.S. Army OH6 helicopter was hit by ground fire, crashed and was destroyed in Kratie Province while supporting the RVNAF in operation Toan Thang 01/71. Three U.S. crewmen were wounded in the crash. During the afternoon of March 12, U.S. helicopter gunships flying support to ARVN forces in operation Toan Thang 01/71 received enemy ground fire from an undetermined-size enemy force 24 miles east-northeast of Kampong Cham City. The enemy were engaged with onboard ordnance, killing five of them. There were no friendly casualties. Also on March 12, a U.S. Army AH1 helicopter was hit by enemy ground fire, crashed and was destroyed in Svay Rieng Province while supporting the same operation. Two U.S. crew members were killed.
