More detail on this person: Mark Ayres, 67, of Poteau, OK, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2016, in Fort Smith, AR. He was born August 3, 1949, at Independence, MO. He was a retired Chief Warrant Officer from the U.S. Army where he served as a helicopter pilot in both Vietnam and Desert Storm; he also retired from BP Refinery in Texas City, TX where he was a Sr. Maintenance Supervisor. Preceding him in death was his mother, Barbara A. (Makemson) Dutzel. Survived by his wife of 46 years Carolyn Ayres of the home, a son Brian Ayres of Spring, TX; a brother Randall Ayres and wife Connie of Wister, OK, an aunt Elizabeth Miller of Columbus, OH, and a host of other family members, friends and loved ones. Pallbearers will be Brian Ayres, Russ Emory, Rufus Kersh, Virgil Brockman, Rodney Wilcox and Dennis Dolan.Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 2, 2016, at Grace Manor Memorial Chapel, Poteau, with Pastor Clint Beesley officiating. Interment will follow service at 12:00 noon at Fort Smith National Cemetery, Fort Smith, AR. You may offer condolence to the family from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
