More detail on this person: Frank passed over on 22 March of this year of cancer. His funeral
will be 27 May 04 at Arlington with full honors. We know that he was awarded 3 DFCs, an Air Medal
with V device, and perhaps others. He was a pilot extraordinaire. When he got sick he was in
Kuwait on his second tour with his Alabama NG unit, instructing on Blackhawks. We can find
narratives for only one of the DFC's and the Air Medal. There are also a number of oak leaf
clusters that are unexplained. These may be for unit citations. The DFC narrative describes a
flare mission into a besieged FSB in which the flares were unneeded but they needed med-evac. Frank
went back to base dumped the flares and went back in for the wounded, bringing them out safely. Can
you help with the other two DFC's? His sister thinks that a chaplain was involved with one of them.
The family has seen all the medals, but he had a sorry history of keeping paper that regarded his
actions. No one in his Guard unit had any idea that he had been awarded anything. He simply never
talked about it. As a lawyer, he was also extraordinary, but when it came to himself, he just
didn't keep track. This information was last updated 05/18/2016
