Born in Summerton, SC in August of 1936, he was a son of the late Irving Edward and Louise Evelyn Ardis. A resident of Myrtle Beach since 1940, he was a graduate of Myrtle Beach High School, Class of 1954. A decorated US Army veteran, he served as a helicopter pilot and test pilot in North Africa, Korea, Dominican Republic, Alaska, Vietnam and other locations. Ed was the recipient of 23 air medals and twice the Bronze Star Medal for heroism. He loved the Army and flying. Following his military service, he and his family then operated Ardis Realty, Ardis Construction and Sidra Construction in Surfside Beach until his retirement in 1998. He was also past president of South Strand Board of Realtors.

Survivors include his wife and best friend of 57 years, Ghneitta Jenerette Ardis of Surfside Beach; a son, James E. Ardis, Jr. of Surfside Beach; a daughter, Geneice A. Walsh of Murrells Inlet; his beloved grandchildren, Ryan, Phillip and Kristina Spangler; great-grandchildren, Julian and Emma Spangler from whom he takes with him their love, memories and a legacy to be remembered. His brother, Glenn Ardis of Virginia Beach also survives. A son, Charles Edward Ardis predeceased him.

A funeral service will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, September 22, 2012 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. Burial will follow at Ocean Woods Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, September 21, 2012 at the funeral home.
