Phillip J. Ahneman was a long time friend. I
didn't attend OCS or flight school with Phil or
serve with him in RVN but we did a tour with the
2d Avn Bn, 2d Inf Div in Korea in 1977 where he
was the S2 and I was the S3. A We spent many
hours talking about the central highlands where he
flew out of Camp Hollaway at the same time I was
flying out of Camp Enari. We also spent many
hours talking about fishing and hunting as Phil
was a life-long enthusiasts. We finally got
to fish together in Texas and Minnesota for about
10 years in the early 2000's.
I tried on many occasions to get him to join the
VHPA or attend a reunion but was unsuccessful. A
At one point I sent him a box of Aviators and a
directory to try to get him interested but he just
wasn't.
Phil grew up in Morehead, Minnesota where he met
a girl from Fargo (his wife of more than 50 years,
Jana), they were married around 65 or 66. Phil
went in the Army in 1966 and after normal training
attended infantry OCS and then flight school. He
flew slicks for the 189th AHC in '68\'69.
His wife lives in Lafayette, LA <337-988-2130> as
well as a grown son and daughter.
