More detail on this person: William Allen "Bill" Autrey passed away at his home on July 12, 2015.

He was born in Shawnee on Nov. 19, 1948. His father, W.F. Autrey, was also born Nov. 19, in 1920. His mother, Ruthie Faye (Burnett) Autrey, passed away in 2014 and his father in 1960.

Bill flew combat missions during the Vietnam Conflict, from Vietnam and Thailand. He also served after the war in Korea. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Chief Warrant Officer, Instructor Pilot, flying the "Huey" helicopter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister: Melinda Jane Calvert, and his son, William Lewis Autrey.

He is survived by his daughter: Janelle Coleman, and granddaughter: Meghan Coleman. He is also survived by his brother: Mark Autrey, and niece Julia Shankle, and nephew Ted Shankle and wife Christine. Also grandnephew Tristan Shankle. Other survivors include Aunt Dorothy Hopkins, and many cousins.

His last year of life was happily spent with is cousins, Jim and Jerry Herron, watching birds and golfers from their home in Shawnee.

Bill was a very generous and unselfish man. He was a hero to his brother. His family is very saddened with his unexpected passing. No services are planned.
