William Lusk Allen, 77, a resident of Silver City,
NM entered eternal rest on Monday, August 29,
2011 at his residence with his family at his
bedside. Lt. Colonel Allen was born on August 21,
1934 in Silver City, NM to Myron H. Allen and
Elizabeth (Lusk) Allen. He attended Silver City
and Cliff High Schools, New Mexico State and the
University of Arizona where he graduated in 1957.
He married Arlene Worthington on August 6, 1957
and entered the Army the next week. He served in
Ordnance, Artillery, and Military Intelligence in
Germany, Thailand and two tours in Vietnam. After
retiring from the Army in 1977 he settled in
Silver City, New Mexico where he was employed by
the Tyrone Branch of Phelps Dodge Corporation.
His duties included public relations, management
of Pacific Western Cattle Company and lobbying in
the New Mexico Legislature. He left Phelps Dodge
in 1989 to become the Executive Director of the
Arizona Livestock Board, retiring in 1995. He
returned to Silver City in 2007. His interests
included photography, flying and writing. He
authored a book, "Anzio Edge of Disaster in 1978
and many magazine articles on hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his loving wife, Arlene
(Worthington) Allen; two sons, Tracy William Allen
and his wife Melanie of Virginia Beach, VA and
Brian Christopher Allen and his wife Heather of
Chandler, AZ; two daughters, Kelly Elizabeth
Goodman and her husband Pat of Lovettsville, VA
and Colleen Patricia Fregd and her husband Jeffery
of Mesa, AZ; one sister, Mary Ann Barnes and her
husband James of Silver City, NM; six
grandchildren, Amy, Ryan, Stephanie, Samantha,
Christian, Stephanie, Kristy and Lindsey; two
great-grandchildren, Ethan and Sophia and two
cousins, Robert Artle and George Richardson. He
was preceded in death by both of his parents. A
funeral service is schedule for Friday, September
2, 2011 at 12:30pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels
with Reverend Tyler Connoley officiating. Lt.
Colonel Allen will then be laid to rest at Fort
Bayard National cemetery where he will receive
full military honors. Arrangements are with
