66, died Friday, June 1, 2007 at Kate B. Reynolds
Hospice House in Winston-Salem. He was born
February 13, 1941 in Rowan County, to the late
Helen McDaniel Allen and the late Ervin Walter
Allen Sr. He was a 1959 graduate of Boyden High
School.
Mr. Allen was a veteran of the United States Army,
had two tours in Vietnam, and was a helicopter
pilot. He was awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze
Star with V Device, the Distinguished Flying
Cross, the Air Medal 15 Device, the Republic of
Vietnam Combat Medal, The Purple Heart, the
Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense
Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the
Meritorious Service Medal and the Senior Aviation
Badge.
Mr. Allen worked for the U.S. Post Office, he was
a member of Shiloh Reformed Church of Faith and a
trustee. He was a member of Faith Civitan Club and
Faith American Legion, Rockwell Amvets, a Life
Member of DAV and VFW. The Faith JCs voted him
Senior Citizen of the year in 2006. He was
Executive Officer of the Charter Organization of
Shiloh. He was also involved with Boy Scouts of
America, and was a BSA Past District
Commissioner, Member of the Order of the Arrow,
recipient of the Silver Beaver Award and held the
Wood Badge.
A son, Norman Russell "Rusty" Allen preceded him
in death, on March 25, 1996.
Survivors are wife: Wanda Evans Allen, whom he
married December 13, 1958; sons: Gregory Todd
Allen of El Paso, Texas, Jody Ray Allen and wife
Angela of Salisbury, five grandchildren: Amanda,
Joey, Savanna, Jessie and Ian, and one great
grandchild: Macy Wellmon. Also surviving are
brother: Ervin Walter Allen Jr. of Churchland and
sisters: Peggy Teal of Concord, Eleanor Burton of
Salisbury and Faye Raney of Perlear, NC.
Funeral Service: 1:00 pm Monday at Shiloh
Reformed Church of Faith with the Rev. Wayne
Trexler officiating. Burial will be at the
Salisbury National Cemetery with Military
Graveside Rites conducted by the Rowan County
Honor Guard. Visitation: 7-8:30 pm tonight at
Lyerly Funeral Home.
