More detail on this person: Julius Howard Avant passed away Monday, December 22, 2020 at UNC Rex Healthcare in Raleigh. He is survived by his wife Mary Lyndia Avant from Elizabethtown, and children, Kelly Avant Crabill (Rob), Chris Avant (Amber), Julie Avant Evers (Frank) and Neil Avant (Felecia). In addition, he is survived by his brother James Earl Avant and sisters Iris Avant Goins and Pam Avant Benton. Julius will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Cameron Crabill, Luke Avant, Parker Crabill, Courtney Evers, Josh Evers and Devin Avant. Julius is predeceased by his parents, Rosa Lee Avant and Thurman Earl Avant. Julius was born in Columbus County on October 22, 1938. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a bachelor's degree in engineering. He served 38 years in the military and retired from the U.S. Army as a colonel and veteran U.S. Army helicopter pilot. He also worked at Bladen Community College in Dublin for over 30 years and retired as the business manager. Julius was an active member in the community and church for many years. He served on the Elizabethtown Airport Board and was an active member at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Elizabethtown. His strong Christian faith led him to serve as a senior warden, junior warden, a lector and a lay minister in the church. He will be forever remembered for his love of his country, his Christian faith, his family, cars and flying. Family will receive visitors at their home in Elizabethtown. A private burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Elizabethtown.
